Made to Measure or off the rack: the Great Debate

Made to Measure or off the rack: the Great Debate - Leonard Silver

There’s a debate raging in the tailoring world; is it better to go for suit designed and created bespoke to your tastes and size, or is off the peg a viable solution?

Of course, there are notable differences between the two options. Tailored suiting offers something unique that the consumer won’t be able to find anywhere else. However, ready made suits now come in a vast array of designs and styles, not to mention they’re available at a much more accessible price point.

Here we take a more in depth look at the two choices facing consumers.

Quality versus Quantity

Mass produced suits come with a smaller price tag, which makes wearing suits attainable for those that would otherwise not be able to afford one. But it’s worth considering the quality of these; often the materials used to make them are of a lower quality and, given no two body types are the same, a one-size fits all approach isn’t ideal.

Get Exactly what you Wanted

When buying off the rack you’re limited to the materials, colour and cut that it comes in. Whilst there’s a growing range to cater for a variety of fashions, made to measure garments allow the customer to chose everything about their suit, from lining to cloth and more.

Nothing else Rivals a Bespoke Service

Going in to a tailor’s workshop is an experience in itself. Being measured and fitted head to toe is something quite unique. It should be on every man’s bucket list to do at least once!
